Majoring in the Majors

Hang around for any time and you’ll hear me use the phrase “Major in the majors, minor in the minors”

Here’s the tension - there’s power in knowledge, but too much knowledge can paralyze. Scroll through fitness Instagram and you’ll see 10 different influencers contradict one another and all have scientific research that backs why the previous one is the worst.

Here’s what I’ve found consistently in my journey - If I stick to the majors, the minors tend to follow.

Let me take nutrition as an example. Keto. Fasting. Paleo. Macro goals. Which one is the best for me? When I lost 100lbs back in 2020, I tracked two things; calories and protein. I found if I could major in those two things, success followed.

I’m not saying the minor things don’t have an impact, but if you’re not going to approach them in a healthy way if you’re not focused on the majors.

CrossFit has a “Theoretical Hierarchy of Development” that we’re taught in our L1. Here’s the order of importance in developing our fitness: Nutrition, Metabolic Conditioning, Gymnastic, Weightlifting, and Sports. If you’re looking for good direction on how to tackle any of these, send me a message and let’s get going.
